Company profile

Our client is the leading service provider in the global ground and cargo handling business. Currently, it serves more than 70 million passengers, and provides ramp handling for over 2 million aircraft. In 2005, the group reported revenues of over USD 1.2 billion and employed more than 21,000 people worldwide. Over the last 2 years they have engaged Lausanne Consulting in a continuing process improvement project. This LCG project has now moved through 4 airports, in the US, and across Switzerland.

 

Issues

Within such a large and time critical environment it is important for efficiency in both process and resource management. Our client has found that managing this in a productive way involves intricate processes and the need to constantly evolve business.

 

Objectives

After initial discussions with Lausanne Consulting, a 2 week Initial Opportunity Review (IOR) was undertaken at each airport to determine the chance to increase the productivity, reduce costs and enhance various processes.

The IOR enables Lausanne Consulting to look “deeper” into a company. Many issues such a global company will face will originate at the lower management levels. So typically that is where an LCG analysis will start.

Across the last projects which we have completed for our client there are several common key delivery areas which were agreed, and successfully implemented:

  • To improve the profitability of our client’s operation without significant change to Service level agreements
  • To reduce the cost base by improving the planning and resource management systems and staff flexibility
  • To reduce costs through a ground-up review of all non-labour and labour expenses (zero based budgeting)
  • A change management approach towards behaviour, to develop a proactive and flexible culture ready to face the challenges of the upcoming years
